Surat: Diamantiares from Surat and Mumbai are set to make a beeline for Surat diamond bourse (SDB) as the core committee has decided to open booking for office spaces in the bourse from the first week of June. They will be booking space for a token amount of Rs 600 per square feet, according to a report published in The Times of India.
This is despite the fact that the state government is yet to quote the final land price at Diamond Research and Mercantile (DREAM) city project at Khajod.
Sources said SDB diamond bourse was flooded with inquiries from traders. Since the government is yet to fix land price, the bourse members are in a dilemma.
SDB spokesperson Mathur Savani told TOI, “The land is allotted but government is yet to quote final land price. We will finish the project in four years. So we have decided to start bookings at the token amount of Rs 600 per square feet. This will give us an idea on the office requirement and construction area.”
Immediately after the ground breaking ceremony on February 15, diamond barons of Surat and Mumbai had finalized the design. This diamond bourse will be India’s second diamond trading hub. It will be spread across 100 acres with the availability of 15 million sq ft built-up area encompassing 10,000 offices for national and international traders. The SDB is registered under the Companies Act and is likely to cost Rs 125,000 crore.
