Moscow: ALROSA recovered a 214.65-carat diamond from Nyurbinskoye placer deposit, the second such special stone found in the area in as many months.
The company said the diamond measures 42.11mm x 34.26mm x 16.07mm and is translucent with a grey hue. It has cracks that are filled with graphite and sulphide composition and is classified by the company as 4 black clivage/makeable grey.
The Nyurbinskoye placer deposit is located in the immediate vicinity of the Nyurbinskaya mine, where ALROSA found in June a 241-carat diamond with similar characteristics. Both operations are part of the company’s Nyurba mining division. ALROSA said the placer accounted for 5 percent of its total production in 2015.
