Hong Kong: Organised by JNA & CJNA of UBM Asia, the World Gold Council and the People’s Government of Yantian District, Shenzhen, supported by the Culture, Sports and Tourism Administration of Shenzhen Municipality and exclusively sponsored by Shenzhen Batar Investment Holding Group Limited, the inaugural edition of the Xifu International Gold Wedding Jewellery Design Competition has kicked off with a press conference held at the Sheraton Dameisha Resort, Shenzhen in China.
The biennial competition aims at encouraging designers to express and share unique wedding traditions and customs from around the world. It invites jewellery design talents to design unique gold wedding jewellery sets, incorporating the traditional Chinese wedding custom of extending well wishes to newlywed couples through symbolic jewellery gifts.
Senior officials of the People’s Government of Yantian District, Shenzhen as well as the Culture, Sports and Tourism Administration of Shenzhen Municipality attended the press conference and praised the high standards and professionalism demonstrated by the organisers as well as the objectives and vision of the competition. They noted that close collaboration between Chinese and global organisations to uplift the quality of gold wedding jewellery designs is crucial to the development of China’s gold jewellery industry. The competition is also an important milestone to enhance the significance of Shenzhen in China’s jewellery industry.
Representatives from the other organisers of the competition were also present at the press conference. Letitia Chow, founder of JNA, CJNA and director of business development –Jewellery Group at UBM Asia Ltd, said, “The establishment of the Xifu International Gold Wedding Jewellery Design Competition is a pioneering effort to promote the advancement of the gold wedding jewellery industry.” Roland Wang, managing director of the World Gold Council in China, also voiced his confidence on the competition’s role in nurturing young but expert designers.
In traditional Chinese wedding culture, Shuangxi, commonly translated as “double happiness”, is an auspicious ligature that symbolises joy and marriage. Xi-Fu, a registered trademark of the World Gold Council, is a gold jewellery brand especially tailored for the global wedding market.
The Xifu International Gold Wedding Jewellery Design Competition seeks to encourage talented contestants to dedicate their passion, innovation and cutting-edge designs in order to create a new era in the gold jewellery industry. The theme of the inaugural competition is ‘Oneness.’ The organisers and the jury of the competition would like to see designs incorporating different cultures and insights and reflecting the creativity and originality of designers from all over the world.
Xifu International Gold Wedding Jewellery Design Competition 2017 is open to all budding and professional jewellery designers as well as students and graduates of all jewellery design disciplines.
