London: Varda Shine, who previously headed the Diamond Trading Company of De Beers, has joined the board of platinum miner Lonmin as an independent nonexecutive director.

In addition to running the DTC, Shine, a British national, also served as nonexecutive chairperson of DTC Botswana, a 50-50 split between De Beers and the Botswana government, and as nonexecutive chairperson of Namibia DTC, a 50-50 split between De Beers and the government of Namibia. She left De Beers last year after overseeing the DTC’s move to Botswana.
