Surat Diamond Sector Regains Normalcy

man-cutting-diamondSurat: Due to eruption of violence by Patidar community members on last Wednesday in Surat, the Federation of Surat Textile Traders Association (FOSTTA) and the Surat Diamond Association (SDA) members, were forced to seek the help of police and the paramilitary forces.

The Surat police and army personnel brought  the city back to normalcy,  thus helping the diamond factories and the markets to re-open on Thursday, 27th Aug. Confirming this, Ms. Jilpa Sheth of GJEPC (Surat regional office), said, “ the sector was functioning as usual on Thursday barring a few units which were closed even earlier. Factories and markets are functioning normally today  as well, without any untoward incidents.”

According to media reports, Surat Diamond Association (SDA) office bearers moved out in the diamond markets and urged people to re-start their businesses.  SDA president Dinesh Navadia said, “Some miscreants had entered Mini Bazaar diamond markets and tried to close down the offices. We immediately reached the spot with police and told the merchants not to fear.”
