Stunning Collections by IIGJ Jaipur Graduates

Jaipur: The opening show on Day Three at the India International Jewellery Week 2014 presented by Nazraana in association with P C Jeweller was one of the most eagerly awaited, as it featured the talented graduates from the Indian Institute of Gems and Jewellery, Jaipur presented by the fabulous Derewala World Jewellery, Jaipur.

The “Astitva” collection, presented by the 21 designers who showed one ornament each from the Indian Institute of Gems and Jewellery, Jaipur was in two segments that were breath-taking in their design, finish and craftsmanship.

For the first sequence it was a tribute to architecture from the various regions of the country moving from North to South and East to West. The fusion of the patterns in the jewellery was a gorgeous offering of creativity, style and craftsmanship.

Side ribbed cuff with gold chains, the modern question mark design for earrings, South Indian motifs for pendants and the pink silk tassel edged in gold caps hanging on a thread were interesting interpretations of the theme. A peacock inspired pendant had a contemporary touch and the 3D flower creation as well as the coral and gold necklace revealed how creatively the students had given vent to their ideas.

The second sequence was an ode to the beauty of City Palace Jaipur and its architecture. Here the magnificent pieces dazzled with diamonds, precious stones and metals.

Minarets appeared on armlets and danglers had intricate shields. Kadas had a raised dome structure, while necklaces had palace carvings to highlight them. The dramatic pendant at the end of a neckpiece, the pearl trellis earrings, lacy kada, chandbalis with streamers of pearls and a kandeel pendant on a string of beads recreated the grandeur of the palace on the ornaments.

The lovely Indian and fusion outfits seen during the show were designed by Muni and Girija and blended perfectly with the jewellery.

The Indian Institute of Gems and Jewellery, Jaipur is a pioneer institute for the Gems and Jewellery sector with a strong focus on education and training in the sub sector domains of design technology and management. The philanthropic approach of renowned jewellers of Jaipur along with the GJEPC and NSDC was instrumental in sponsoring the institute that stands today, as a landmark of elegance and aesthetics.
