New York: Blue and pink diamonds outperformed yellows in terms of price during the second quarter, according to the latest Fancy Color Diamond Index (FCDI) from the Fancy Color Research Foundation (FCRF).
The index, which is based on pricing details collected for blue, pink, and yellow diamonds traded in Hong Kong, New York, and Tel Aviv, reveals a 0.3 per cent uptick for pink stones during this period. This is mainly attributed to an increase of 0.6 per cent in the ‘fancy’ grade category, FCRF reports, with two- and three-carat fancy pinks rising by 1.6 and 2 per cent, respectively. Single-carat fancy pinks were the highest climbers in the pink category (2.2 per cent), while 10-carat fancy pinks showed a 1.1 per cent price decrease.
Meanwhile, blue diamond prices saw an overall increase of 0.4 per cent, following an appreciation of 0.8 per cent in the fancy grade category. The 1.5- and two-carat blues (in all saturations) showed the highest increase (1.3 per cent), with fancy blue 1.5 carats rising by 1.7 per cent and ‘fancy intense blue’ (1.5 carats) rising by 2.2 per cent.
Finally, the price of yellow diamonds remained stable with an increase of 0.1 per cent. The ‘fancy vivid yellow’ five-carat group saw the most prominent increase at 1.3 per cent.
