KP Meeting in Angola from 22nd June

kimberley-logoLuanda: Angola, which is currently chairing the Kimberley Process (KP), is set to host the diamond watchdog’s intercession meeting from 22 to 26 June in the capital, Luanda.

Angolan state-controlled news agency, Angop, reports that the meeting would bring together more than 200 delegates from 82 countries.

The gathering was expected to assess the activities undertaken by the organization since its last meeting in China in November 2014, as well as prepare issues to be discussed at the plenary session penciled for next November.

The meeting was also expected to break the impasse on the country that would deputize Angola, said Bernardo Campos who is the current KP chairperson. Both Australia and the United Arab Emirates (Dubai) had been vying for the seat since November 2014. The country to deputize Angola would automatically chair the KP next year.
