GSI to Participate in DDES

Mumbai: “A better understanding of the facts and issues surrounding synthetic diamonds will help dispel some of the needless panic and confusion. It will help the diamond industry cope more effectively with the issue of undisclosed mixing of synthetic diamonds with parcels of natural goods,” said GSI (Gemological Science International) CEO Mark Gershburg.

Gershburg’s comments come as GSI announces its participation in the Diamond Detection Expo and Symposium (DDES) hosted jointly by the Gem & Jewellery Export Promotion Council (GJEPC) and the Bharat Diamond Bourse (BDB) in Mumbai on December 15 and 16.

A seminar conducted by GSI Chief Gemologist Seema Ashish Athavale on December 15, featuring a comparative study of natural and synthetic diamonds will be one of the highlights of the GSI participation.

Gershburg, Athavale and other senior GSI staff will interact with members of the diamond trade during the two-day event, explaining and informing them of the issues and latest developments in the field of synthetic diamonds.

The GSI information outreach will help even non-technical diamond industry stakeholders get a better and more comprehensive understanding of the issues relating to synthetic diamonds. Symposium participants can access GSI personnel at the lab’s booth.
