Mumbai: The Gem & Jewellery Export Promotion Council (GJEPC) of India has begun the process of identifying those artisans doing daily wage jobs within the industry who are in need of financial assistance during the ongoing lockdown in the country as a result of the current global novel coronavirus pandemic.
A database is being prepared electronically with artisans being asked to fill in an online form accessible through their mobile phones. Each individual has to provide certain details including personal identification cards (Parichay, Aadhaar or certain specified others), the nature of their employment and their membership, if any, of a trade body, as well as bank details for receiving aid, if they are deemed eligible.
The forms are being widely circulated by GJEPC through state, district and city level trade associations and other bodies across the country.
As earlier reported, the Council has already earmarked a sum of Rs. 50 crore to undertake relief measures for those affected.
