Mumbai: The leadership of the Gem and Jewellery Export Promotion Council (GJEPC) extended a warm welcome to Mr. Sanjay Kumar Agarwal, Chairman of the Central Board of Indirect Taxes & Customs (CBIC), along with Mrs. Prachi Saroop, Chief Commissioner of Customs, and Mr. Harish Dharnia, Commissioner of Customs, Mumbai, at the GJEPC office in Mumbai. The meeting aimed to foster dialogue and address key challenges faced by the gem and jewellery industry.
Representing GJEPC were Mr. Vipul Shah, Chairman; Mr. Kirit Bhansali, Vice Chairman; Mr. Ajesh Mehta, Convener, Diamond Panel; Mr. Shaunak Parikh, Convener, Banking Insurance & Taxation, Mr. Milan Chokshi, Convener, PM&BD; and Mr. Sabyasachi Ray, Executive Director.
During the discussions, GJEPC leadership highlighted several critical issues affecting the sector and sought practical solutions to enhance ease of doing business.
Key topics of discussion included:
- Facilitating the hand-carriage of gems and jewellery through all ports.
- Extending tolerance limits on cut and polished diamonds sent on consignment.
- Establishing a standard operating procedure (SOP) for the reimport of jewellery for repair and subsequent re-export.
- RMS facility for G & J products for exports.
- Difficulty faced with exports of Lab Grown CPD Diamond .
The meeting underscored the need for collaborative efforts between the industry and the customs department to create a more supportive business environment. Shri Agarwal and his team assured the GJEPC leadership of their commitment to addressing these issues and working towards viable solutions.
