Gemewizard Launches Gem Color Academy

Ramat Gan: Gemewizard, the Company in digital solutions for the analysis, description, pricing and trading of color in gemstones and colored diamonds, has inaugurated the Gem Color Academy, its online educational arm that will provide professional-level knowledge and experience for the gem and jewelry industries.

With the start of operations, the Gem Color Academy is launching a landmark course dedicated to the grading of colored gemstones. Its syllabus, drawing from the company and its founders’ more than 40 years of gemological experience and mine-to-market activity, is designed to provide in-depth understanding about the grading, evaluation and pricing of gems, with the goal of equipping graduates with the tools and know-how necessary to succeed in a business environment.

“The goal we set ourselves in developing the course was that it should bridge the gap between theoretical gemology and commercial reality, where sometimes subtle variances in gem properties translate into substantial differences in value,” explained Menahem Sevdermish, Gemewizard’s President and a founder of the Gem Color Academy. “Professionals need to understand how color is derived and how it should be measured and defined in a wide variety of gemstones, and how that, together with other properties, impacts real-time value in the marketplace. Graduates of the academy will be provided with a knowledge base that is widely sought after in our industry.”

The Colored Stones Grading Course focuses on the gemstones most commonly handled in the trade, examining issues related to color, clarity, cut, geographical origin, treatments, optical phenomena and other attributes that define their quality and determine their value. The gem varieties covered include ruby, emerald, sapphire (blue and fancy colors), aquamarine, alexandrite, garnet (all traded varieties), spinel, tanzanite, tourmaline (all traded varieties) and many more.

Working online and at their own pace, or learning in classes offered around the world, with the ongoing support of the Gem Color Academy’s team of experts, students are taught the gem evaluation techniques that commonly are used in the trade. With a strong emphasis on hands-on practice, they are provided more than 100 interactive exercises in sorting, grading and pricing of gems, using digital master rulers, which include Gemewizard’s own groundbreaking GemeSquare™ color evaluation and communication tool.

In addition to receiving access to all online course materials, which include hundreds of gem images, sorted by quality, and dozens of educational videos, the students will receive at home a comprehensive set of Colored Stones Grading Course Notes and a gem kit comprising 25 samples that accurately depict the most important shades in the colored gemstone range. The kit will remain with the student after the course and can be used as a color-master ruler.

Students also receive a one-year subscription to the full suite of Gemewizard products, including GemePrice™, an online pricing system and price list for gemstones and diamonds.

Gem Color Academy students are assigned to a specific class, with its own teacher. These are experienced gemologists and educators, who accompany them for the entire duration of the course, answering their queries, checking their assignments and examinations, and monitoring their progress. Student are also able to communicate with colleagues in the class, sharing insights, experience and knowledge.

The Colored Stones Grading Course is the first of its kind comprehensive program developed by the Gem Color Academy. The educational institution will shortly announce new sets of courses and classes.
