New York: The Diamond Manufacturers & Importers Association of America (DMIA) will hold a special member meeting to announce the launch and opening of the DMIA Diamond Screening and Verification Laboratory and the collaboration between DMIA and the International Gemological Institute (IGI) to develop a same-day diamond verification service. The event will be held at 12:00 noon on Wednesday, January 10, 2024, at the Diamond Dealers Club on the 11th floor of the Gem Tower, 50 West 47th St., New York.
Through the dedicated work of its Diamond Integrity Committee (DDIC), the DMIA announced the launch of two key initiatives to benefit DMIA members and the New York Diamond District’s business community. The Diamond Integrity Committee is chaired by DMIA Vice President Matthew Schamroth.
The first initiative establishes the DMIA Diamond Screening and Verification Laboratory at DMIA’s executive office at 580 5th Ave, suite 625. In alignment with Project Assure guidelines, the DMIA has installed four De Beers Diamond Verification Instruments (DVI’s), which are available for membership use, along with GIA’s iD100, as a membership benefit, free of charge. Use of the equipment will be available by appointment only. More information will be provided at the meeting.
In the framework of the second initiative. IGI, in conjunction with the DMIA, is beta-testing a new diamond verification service that will provide same-day turn-around time for both single stones and diamond parcels. While this service’s “soft launch” began on December 18th, the official launch is scheduled for January 10, 2024, immediately following the DMIA members meeting. Again, additional details will be provided at the launch event on January 10, 2024.
“We cannot overstate the importance of diamond verification to protect the integrity of the natural diamond industry and the reputation of each of our members,” DMIA President Stuart Samuels stated. “Members are encouraged to attend on January 10th to learn more about these initiatives!”
In light of the critical importance of diamond verification to the entire diamond pipeline and the spirit of cooperation between our organizations, DDC and IDCA members are welcome and encouraged to attend. Arrangements for DDC and IDCA members to utilize these programs will be announced at the meeting.
IGI representatives will present along with DDIC committee members to inform participants in greater detail and provide an opportunity for questions and answers. Refreshments and pastries will be served.
