Mumbai: De Beers and India’s Gem & Jewellery Export Promotion Council (GJEPC) held a meeting on 1st August in Mumbai to discuss strategies for bolstering the natural diamond market in India. The discussion centred around the need for education and awareness around natural diamonds.
Ms. Shweta Harit, Global Senior VP, De Beers; Mr. Amit Pratihari, Vice President of De Beers Forevermark India; and Ms. Jodine Bolden, Director of Education, De Beers, highlighted the need for a renewed focus on the Indian market, noting the country’s rising prominence in the diamond industry. GJEPC was represented by its Diamond Panel Members Mr. Nilesh Kothari and Mr. Milan Chokshi, along with Executive Director Mr. Sabyasachi Ray.
The De Beers team emphasized the importance of leveraging expertise across the industry, to address market-specific challenges and provide education and support for retailers, particularly in smaller towns and cities. The De Beers-GJEPC joint initiative will focus on communicating the value of natural diamonds and encouraging retailers to expand their offerings.
