Mumbai: The Diamond Detection Expo & Symposium (DDES) 2018 commenced yesterday with an inauguration by The Consul General of the United States of America, HE Mr. Edgard D. Kagan.
The DDES, organised by The Gem & Jewellery Export Promotion Council (GJEPC), in affiliation with the Bharat Diamond Bourse (BDB), is being held in the BDB from April 23-25, 2018. It is aimed at creating an opportunity for companies providing synthetic diamond detection machines and equipment along with leading laboratories and service providers to interact with trade members to impart knowledge on various techniques to detect synthetic diamonds, and to introduce their machines and instruments.
HE Mr. Kagan cut the ribbon and lit the traditional lamp along with a number of leading members of the GJEPC and the BDB. A catalogue of the event was also unveiled.
During the course of the DDES, seminars are being held daily by the leading laboratories and research centres.
The opening session was conducted by GIA Instructor Mohit Agarwal. He presented the audience with detailed information on synthetics, beginning with the way in which synthetics are created to understanding them, and their detection. The GIA’s booth at DDES provides information on its various activities.
The other session of the day was conducted by Rajiv Sahasrabudhe, Technical Manager (AMS & Detection Equipment), International Institute of Diamond Grading & Research (IIDGR), who gave the audience an insight into synthetics and their detection. Sahasrabudhe also introduced IIDGR’s two latest machines: SYNTHDetect and AMS2; outlining their special qualities. Both machines are also on display at the IIDGR booth at the DDES.
