Cartier Inks Online Deal with Net-A-Porter

New York: Luxury watch maker Cartier is allowing customers to buy a watch over the internet for the first time.

The company is working with online fashion emporium Net-A-Porter on a month-long pop-up shop to offer 12 models of the latest Panthère de Cartier watch – an iconic timepiece from the early eighties re-issued this year.

Net-A-Porter, which is owned by Yoox Net-A-Porter Group, has created the exclusive pop-up shop, which will be open from May 2-31, reported WatchPro.

The retailer will promote the watch collection using online media on its website and across its social channels.

“I am delighted that Cartier has chosen Yoox Net-A-Porter Group as its first online retail partner to sell the Panthère watch. This partnership with the renowned French jeweler and fine watchmaker for this exclusive pop-up is a major success and marks another milestone in our long term strategy,” said Federico Marchetti, CEO, Yoox Net-A-Porter Group.

In a move that may prove controversial with other Cartier retailers, the new Panthère collection will be available in all Cartier boutiques and authorized watch dealers only after the run on Net-A-Porter.
