Antwerp: On June 18, the Chairman of the Antwerp World Diamond Centre (AWDC), Isidore Mörsel, will represent the Antwerp diamond sector at a ministerial meeting in Luanda, Angola. The summit will be fully dedicated to broad-based generic marketing to promote natural diamond worldwide. AWDC has played a central role in successfully uniting all players in the diamond value chain behind one shared ambition: restoring the value of natural diamond among consumers and coordinating the joint efforts required to achieve that goal.
The summit will bring together ministers from diamond-producing countries and representatives of major trading centers, and will focus on how to address the challenges the sector faces today (including through collective action by all stakeholders) with the goal of launching a global promotion effort for natural diamond. The aim is to strengthen the lasting positive impact of natural diamond on producing countries and their communities by informing, inspiring, and raising awareness among a new generation of consumers about the unique and intrinsic value of (natural) diamond.

AWDC Chairman Isidore Mörsel already considers the summit a milestone. “Over the past months, AWDC, together with other partners, has worked hard to unite all stakeholders behind a common ambition – and with success. The summit on June 18 has every potential to become a turning point for the diamond sector. Only through a joint and sustainable effort by every link in the value chain can we make natural diamonds relevant to consumers once again. By better informing people and raising awareness of the intrinsic value, origin, and positive impact of diamond on local communities, we are building a future in which diamond regains its appeal to consumers.”
The ministerial meeting is organized by the Angolan Ministry of Mineral Resources, Petroleum and Gas and will bring together ministers from countries such as Botswana, South Africa, Namibia, Lesotho, Sierra Leone, and the Democratic Republic of Congo, along with other stakeholders from the international diamond industry.
