Antwerp Presents Ring with 321 Natural Diamonds to the US

Antwerp: During the celebration of the 250th anniversary of the United States (US) in the Parc du Cinquantenaire in Brussels, the Antwerp diamond sector presented an exclusive ring set with 321 natural diamonds to U.S. President Donald Trump. The ring symbolizes the historic trade relationship between Antwerp and the United States – for decades the most important export market for Antwerp natural diamonds – while also paying tribute to Antwerp craftsmanship and the unique value of natural diamonds.

The exclusive ring was designed and crafted by Antwerp jeweller and diamantaire David Gotlib and certified by the Antwerp diamond laboratory HRD Antwerp. The design is inspired by the iconic American Super Bowl rings and includes subtle references to the 250thanniversary of U.S. independence. Crafted in 18-karat gold, 321 natural diamonds and 75 gemstones, it is a unique piece created especially for this occasion.

“We are extremely honoured with this beautiful ring,” said U.S. Ambassador Bill White, who received the jewel during the ceremony. “This exceptional gift not only reflects the craftsmanship for which Antwerp is known worldwide, but also the special bond between our countries.”President Donald Trump also expressed his gratitude to the Antwerp diamond sector in a pre-recorded video message.

“The United States has been our most important trading partner for generations,” says Isidore Mörsel, Chairman of the Antwerp World Diamond Centre (AWDC). “A large share of the natural diamonds traded in Antwerp ultimately finds its way to American jewellers and consumers. With this ring,we wanted to celebrate this enduring economic relationship while highlighting what Antwerp stands for globally: trust, craftsmanship, and natural diamonds.”

Ode to natural diamonds:

The fact that the ring was made predominantly of natural diamonds was a deliberate choice. During the VIP reception at Autoworld, the Antwerp diamond sector also used the occasion to inform visitors about the distinction between natural and synthetic diamonds. Guests were able to observe adiamond cutter at work and have their jewellery scanned by the HRD Antwerp diamond laboratory, which verified whether it contained natural or synthetic diamonds.

“For the naked eye, natural and synthetic diamonds look identical, but their origin, rarity, value and societal impact differ fundamentally,” says Mörsel. “Natural diamonds are unique products of nature, formed billions of years ago, and their supply is finite. Moreover, the natural diamond sector has a positive impact on millions of people worldwide. It creates jobs and invests in education, healthcare, infrastructure and local economic development in producing countries such as Botswana, Angola and India.”
“Synthetic diamonds, on the other hand, are an industrially produced product that can be manufactured in unlimited quantities. That is why it is important that consumers are properly informed about the differences, so they can make an informed choice.”

With the presentation of this exclusive ring, the Antwerp diamond sector not only marked a historic milestone for the United States, but also highlighted its centuries-long expertise, its strong economic ties with the United States, and the intrinsic value of natural diamonds.
