ALROSA Unearths 60.32 Carat Diamond

Moscow: ALROSA said on Friday it had extracted a large diamond weighing 60.32 carats, which is priced by experts at about $ 174 500.

The diamond, which is a transparent octahedron-shaped stone with a yellowish hue, was extracted at the Gornoye alluvial diamond field with a dredge of Concentrating Plant No. 3 belonging to the company’s Mirny Mining Division. This is the only plant in Russia equipped with a fleet of diamond dredging machines.

The Gornoye Diamond Placer was discovered in 1956. It is located on the left bank of the Malaya Botuobiya River, 26 km south-east of Mirny.

In addition to the Gornoye placer, the Mirny Mining Division of ALROSA is extracting diamonds from the Mir and Internatsionalny mines, Vodorazdelnye Galechniki and Irelyakhsky placers, as well as from the tailings of Concentrating No. 5.

In 2016, The Mirny Mining Division of ALROSA produced almost 5.3 million carats of diamonds – 21% of the total diamond output of ALROSA Group.
