New Delhi: Sanjoy Pramanik, Asrof Jamal and Sweta Singh won the India Skill 2016 for Gems and Jewellery category that was hosted at Pragati Maidan, New Delhi. The winners who were trained and coached by GJSCI won the prize money of Rs. 1,00,000 , Rs. 75,000 and Rs. 25,000 respectively and the prize was given away by Mr. Rajiv Pratap Rudy, Hon’ble Minister, Ministry of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship in the esteemed presence of Mr. Prem Kothari, Chairman, GJSCI & other dignitaries from NSDC & the Ministry.
India Skills competition is a Skill initiative founded by National Skill Development Council where competition is held for all the skills identified under this initiative including Gems & Jewellery Sector. The aim is to encourage fresh talent to pursue career in the booming industry as well as nurture talents.
The Gems and Jewellery Sector received an overwhelming response where 98 applicants applied, which is the largest number till date, 8 were selected as finalists. At the venue, the participants of the Gems & Jewellery sector were given design and material to curate a piece from scratch and were evaluated on the same.
After a thorough screening process that was conducted by Grau Bär Design and a jury that included Mr. D.D. Karel (Leading Jeweller, New Delhi), Prof. Dhiraj Kumar (Principal-IIGJ Jaipur), Mr. Anupam Karmakar (Vice President of Vummudi Jewels, Chennai), Mr. Wilson, Quadros (Industrial Consultant) & Dr. Parag Vyas (Marshal, World Skills International Expert). All the 8 finalists who represented Gems & Jewellery sector at the India Skill Competition 2016, were prepped for the competition.
Winners of the event will now represent Indian Jewellery Industry at World Skill Competition 2017 that will be hosted in Abu Dhabi. The winners will be provided required training to enhance their designing skills and groom their talent for the global event next year. The exercise will not only bring Indian skills of Gems and Jewellery industry on a global platform but also encourage youth to enter the industry.
Speaking on the occasion, Binit Bhatt, C.O.O, GJSCI said, ‘The core aim of GJSCI is to skill the gems and jewellery sector as well as attract more talent to the industry and it was exciting to see young talent coming forward to represent our industry. It just reassures us that we are on the right track in building the aspirational value amongst the youth to make a career in one of the growth sectors of the country’
Sanjoy Pramanik, who won the first prize, shared his excitement and said, “I come from a non jewellery background; however this industry has always fascinated me. With help of GJSCI, I have been able to reach here at India Skills 2016 and also won the first prize. I feel this is my first step towards making it big in this industry and make my dream of opening a manufacturing training center for talents like me a reality. “
