Mumbai: Dr. Seema Shah has been appointed as the Head at IIGJ Mumbai with effect from September 22, 2014. The Indian Institute of Gems & Jewellery (IIGJ) is a project of the Gems and Jewellery Export Promotion Council (GJEPC) sponsored by the Ministry of Commerce and Industry, Government of India. The previous Principal Col. Arora has stepped down due to health reasons recently. Dr. Seema Shah has worked as Consultant, and former Principal (In-charge) at Vidyalankar Institute of Technology affiliated to University of Mumbai.
The Indian Institute of Gems & Jewellery is one of its kind premier Institute in the country and has been set-up to encourage the youth of today to consider a significant career in the Gems and Jewellery industry. IIGJ is a non-profit organization committed to excellence in education and is appropriately called the new age ‘Gem & Jewellery Gurukul’.
On the appointment, Dr Seema Shah, Principal, IIGJ comments, “India is now recognized as a global leader in the Gem & Jewellery industry and it is essential that we nurture young talented minds to take this industry to the next level. It is our endeavor to provide advance knowledge and professionalism in the field of Gema and Jewellery”.
The Institute conducts courses in basic as well as advanced Jewellery Design, Manufacturing. It includes carious subjects like refining, casting, setting, model making, rubber mould making, CAD / CAM, Gemology and Diamond grading. It is the only full-fledged Institute offering courses in all aspects of Jewelry Design and Manufacturing. The faculty comprises of professional designers, technicians, craftsmen and educationalists.
About Dr. Seema Shah:
Dr. Seema Shah has completed her Doctorate in the area of Distributed Shared Memory on a Grid of Clustered Machines. She has had about twenty four years of teaching experience in academics and software industry. Her primary technical areas of interest are Microprocessors, Computer Organization, Operating Systems, Distributed Computing, Software testing and Data Warehousing. She has guided many projects at the undergraduate and postgraduate level in these areas. On the non-technical front her areas of expertise are teaching related: pedagogy and andragogy, microteaching, active and cooperative learning techniques, mentoring, and counseling, soft skills include communication, team work, goal setting, decision making, time management etc. Her training sessions have incorporated a variety of active learning and participatory learning techniques like group discussions, open book assignments, seminars, mini projects etc. which has made the Teaching learning process interesting & a value addition to the students.
She is Senior Member, IEEE, life member: ISTE and IWSA. She has been a resource person at various STTPs and training programs for faculty and students of several engineering colleges. She has published many Technical, Management and Teaching- Learionazning related papers in International and National conferences. She is the recipient of the Best Teacher Award, Rotaract Club Sion, Mumbai & Best Polytechnic Teacher Award- 2001, Maharashtra State, recommended by The Indian Society for Technical Education, New Delhi. She has also authored books for Oxford University Press, Vipul Publications and Reliable Publications.
